Superb Home Remodeling handles home remodeling in Newtown, PA — kitchens, bathrooms, basements and additions on some of the oldest and most valuable housing in Bucks County. We are a licensed general contractor and we carry the permit and the review process for you.

Borough or township — they are not the same office

Newtown Borough and Newtown Township are separate municipalities that share a name, and each runs its own code office. Borough permits are issued through the Zoning and Code Enforcement office at the Borough Office, 23 North State Street, Newtown, PA 18940, (215) 968-2109. Township addresses go elsewhere. We confirm the jurisdiction from the parcel before filing.

Historic review is a real step here

Newtown Borough has a Historical Architectural Review Board. Under the borough’s historic districts ordinance, HARB reviews work in the district and recommends certificates of appropriateness to Borough Council. For exterior work — windows, doors, siding, roofing, additions visible from the street — that review sits ahead of the build and has its own meeting calendar. Projects that ignore it stall. We confirm the scope with the borough and build the review into the schedule rather than discovering it late.

The housing

The Newtown Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1979 with boundary increases in 1986, takes in 293 contributing buildings running from the late 17th to the early 20th century — Greek Revival, Federal, Late Victorian, Queen Anne and Gothic Revival among them. The borough itself is small: about 2,224 residents and 986 housing units, with a median owner-occupied value of $783,400 and a median household income of $166,429. These are houses where the finish standard has to match the building, and where the correct answer is often restoration-minded rather than a wholesale gut.

Questions Newtown homeowners ask

Does my exterior project need HARB approval?

If the property is in the historic district, exterior work generally goes through HARB review before Council issues a certificate of appropriateness. We confirm the trigger with the Borough Office at the start, since the meeting calendar drives the schedule.

Is my address borough or township?

We verify it from the parcel. The two have different offices, different fees and, in the borough, the added historic review step.

Can the project be financed?

Yes — see renovation financing for the lenders we work with.
