Permits, and the historic district question
Permits are issued by Media Borough’s Code Enforcement Department at Borough Hall, 301 North Jackson Street, Media, PA 19063 (610-566-5210). The borough requires a permit to construct or alter a structure, to build an addition including a deck, to demolish or move a structure, to change occupancy, and to install or alter heating, air conditioning, plumbing or electrical service. Do I need a permit to replace windows?
Like-for-like replacement is treated as an ordinary repair in the borough. Changing an opening’s size, or working on a property in a historic district, is a different matter — we confirm both before quoting.
How early does HARB review need to start?
Before the work is scheduled. The board meets on its own calendar and recommends to Council, so exterior projects in a designated district are planned around that timeline.
